62.) Welcome to Crazy Games!

Hello! Welcome back to my next blog post and my apologies for not posting this sooner. Today, I am excited to talk about Crazy Games; a browser game platform where anyone can play a variety of games for free. After the demise of Flash, Crazy Games is looking to take back its place as a top gaming platform. Last year in October of 2018, Crazy Games launched a new HTML5 Gaming Developer Portal for all developers with revenue share options. It’s essentially a platform where game developers can upload, manage and monetize their browser games all in one place. The purpose of this initiative is to help budding game developers get the exposure they deserve, which is difficult when you're just starting out. To help celebrate the launch, Crazy Games offered their first developer content. A total of 200 games competed for the $2000 prize, but only one could be the winner. CircloO 2 won the contest with its minimalistic graphics, challenging clever levels, excellent use of physics and puzzle elements. Mr. Tulip Head’s Puzzle Garden was awarded second place with the prize of $500 and 12 Mini Battles in third with $250.

This is a great platform for indie game developers because it helps eliminate the hassle of distributing their games. You don’t have the hassle of contacting different game platforms and mailing files several times with changes. The developer portal allows you to register and upload in minutes. You only need your game files and a screenshot. I was pleased to discover that after publication, developers are allowed to update their game files at any point in time. This allows developers to make improvements to their games from feedback they gather. Crazy Games also provides an SDK to help with integrating in-game advertisements to increase the revenue of your game. Your game will still earn revenue whether you decide to utilize the SDK or not. Crazy Games also allows you to embed games by adding them to your website whether it’s Tumblr, WordPress or other blog. This allows developers to further expand their audience. Also, be sure to check out the Crazy Games Blog where they provide a view behind the scenes of Crazy Games and browser gaming. They share the development process of browser games as well as marketing.

The Crazy Games Annual Scholarship
Crazy Games offers a scholarship of $1500 to students in the fields of digital media, game development, or software engineering. All international students can apply and one piece of work is required for submission. Examples of work would be a game prototype, an essay related to games, or an overview of game development technologies. In order to participate in the scholarship content, applicants must meet the following criteria:

          • Must be currently attending University or college (or set to attend) during the calendar year.
          • Must be in good standing with current or prospective institution.
          • Must apply to the content via email, providing name, address, university name, major and your expected graduation month and year.

Kevin de Youngster from Ashesi University in Ghana won the 2018 edition of the annual scholarship not only for his excellent grades. He was the organizer of the Global Game Jam at his university and for his game Tagetti. So if you are an eligible student in college or you know someone who is, I highly recommend applying.
